One thing we recently have done that we LOVED, and had so much fun doing, is an at home wine and canvas. We went to one of our local artisan stores and found a nice bottle of wine. We’re huge fans of reds, and have been on a Bordeux kick lately. Then, head on over to the store and grab some canvas boards. We typically get ours from Michaels, as they will also have any paints you might need. We like Craft Smart Paints. Grab your paint brushes, and you’re ready to go! Now you’re back at home with all the necessary supplies needed for your fun date night…now what to paint? Or how to paint it? Here is kind of where you can go one of two ways –

The pictures that inspire you to paint
Our Inspiration photos – Taken by us on our trip to France
  1. First way is looking up a guiding painting session online, youtube can be a very good resource for this.
  2. The second way, which is the way we did it the first time, and plan to continue doing, is scrolling through your phone or camera and finding a picture you both enjoy from a time or place that made you happy and brings up a great memory. You’ll see our example above. We used a combination of two photos from one of our favorite places, Chamonix, France. These photos brought back so many great memories from our trip, and also ignited a fire to travel somewhere again. Motivating and fun! Doing it this way can be significantly harder than a step by step painting guide, however, we enjoyed seeing what each of our creative minds could come up with doing and the techniques used to get there. As you can see below, our end products both encompassed our inspiration pictures in some way, but looking at them side by side, are completely different. And we love that!

The final products!

We had so much fun painting this night and cannot wait to revisit this idea in the future. Not only did we have a fun night, diving deeper into who we are artistically, we were able to reminisce. We also now have new artwork that will inevitably be framed and hung up on one of the walls of our home. A memory for us, and a conversation piece for those visiting.
