Here’s a list of our favorite cooking items we use for camping!

One of the best parts of camping is going to the grocery store, loading up your car, getting to your campsite, and cooking your next meal over a nice campfire. Over the years we have learned what works well, what doesn’t, and what we hope to add to our collection one day. Here’s a list of our favorite and must have items to have for making cooking while camping easy and enjoyable.

  • Cast Iron Skillet

One of our favorite things to cook on is a cast iron skillet. It’s so versatile. You can roast veggies, cook pizza or flatbread, make eggs and toast. The possibilities are really endless. Because it’s so versatile it is also a space saver when packing for your trip.

  • Over the Fire Grate

Pictured above, an over the fire grate makes cooking meals easy and virtually seamless. Just make sure to also have oven mitts on hand! You’ll see these pictured in all the photos in this post.

  • Cast Iron Cauldron

We love to make nachos in this. It’s not really called a cauldron, but we love witches over here, so it’s a cauldron to us. To be completely honest, we’ve only made nachos in this, BUT we plan on using it to make spaghetti for one of our upcoming camping trips. As well as, finding other fun recipes to make in it as we see the potential it has for great campfire meals.

What we call the “Cauldron”
  • Kettle

This is nice to heat water for coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. It’s more compact than trying to heat water in some sort of pot. Ours came with two camping mugs too!

  • French Press

For all you coffee lovers that have to have your morning cup 😉 or evening cup. We found this the easiest way to make coffee for us while camping. A french press is easy to store, easy to clean, and keeps our coffee warm. Just place your grounds in the french press and pour your heated water from your kettle over top. Of course finish making the coffee per usual French Press operations, and enjoy some coffee over the fire.

  • Refillable Water Jug

life saver for doing dishes, and for cooking.

  • Dish Bin

also an absolute life saver. It’s fillable and it drains out the bottom. Just fill with water and soap, soak your dishes, and when you’re ready give them a good wash. We usually set ours up on the ground with the refillable water jug set on the bench of the picnic table. This allows for easy filling. It also lets you have running water while doing your dishes.
